About Maiwald Consulting

Your health is more important than anything else

As one of Canada's  academic health leaders and entrepreneur in the health field, providing optimal health services to all patients is critical. I work closely with The University of British Columbia and Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity, Northern Ontario School of Medicine to advance social accountability and medical education. I collaborate closely with patient partners, academics, faculty, health care leaders, research institutes, and students to ensure patient-centred approaches in all our work. My expertise includes public health policy development, implementation and evaluation, where I leverage my analytical thinking and quality improvement and evaluator skills necessary to support strategic decisions.

My name is Karin Maiwald. I hold a PhD from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, with a strong academic background in Physiotherapy and Occupational Health. Based in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada. I own Maiwald Consulting, providing independent consulting services and facilitating the integration of research into practice, as part of circle learning. With 18 years of clinical experience in both private and public sectors, I bring ample practical knowledge to collaborative workspaces.

As an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, I contribute to the academic community through research and education. I collaborate with various universities, BC's public regional health authorities, non-profit research institutes, and local community groups. My work is deeply rooted in the values and identities of the communities I serve in the context of learning health systems.

I am passionate about rural health, ethics ('aesthetics') and community equity.
